Today I sit down with Dr. Randy Miller. Dr. Miller holds a PhD. in Biblical Studies and licenses in the National Association of Christian Counseling and the American Association of Christian Counseling. The focus during his doctoral studies was on
the Hebrew language and the origins of Christianity. We get into a lot in this podcast.
Dr. Miller and I discuss counseling and the therapeutic alliance, how this appears in the West in the year 2025, and how we as people in the helping fields can be more present with our clientele. Do insurance and pharmaceutical companies really want patients to be well?
We discuss how Christianity is represented here in the West and how the context in which the Biblical texts appear matters: where they were written, the time and place, and the people who found themselves divinely inspired who penned the words to paper. What gets lost in translation? Has anything been co-opted by figures of authority to use scripture to control people?
Nothing is held back in this conversation, and whether or not you identify as a Christian, if you were born and raised here you have been influenced by its interpretations. As the author and Social Worker Stephen Jenkinson said, we are all good puritans. Who is your God? What do you make your God? What does this have to do with Joseph Campbell? And why do we celebrate holidays like Easter? Spoiler alert, it ain’t about the bunny…
