Why do we attribute personal value to positive and negative, good and bad? Why do we internalize these things? Why is positivity the only solution and negativity frowned so deeply upon? Don’t be so negative. What do you mean? Positive and negative are ways of communicating about complementary opposites, equal and opposite ends of polarity, of a magnet. Of the same magnet.
Do we HAVE to all stay positive? Should we? This is where science has it right with terminology. Would you tell someone with Covid to stay positive? I mean you would be rightly called out as Captain Obvious to say that to someone with HIV. So then why is negativity not seen as the feminine energy that balances out the positive? Males may be dominant in masculine positive energy however they also carry inside of them the feminine energy, the negative. Men are, after all the children of women, who bore them in their womb and conceived them from her egg. That does not simply depart from the biology.
And likewise gentlemen, our female counterparts are the children of men. A man’s sperm fertilized her mother’s egg. Positive is the drive. Negative is the yielding. And we all must yield sometimes to the driven, don’t we? I mean, if we don’t want to get hit by the laser focused drivers… focused on the destination they are likely late to and not the family of four they just cut off.
Doesn’t the old trope dictate that the antagonist in my story should be a woman? If it was a woman she was surely wearing her overies on the outside as the positive energy fueled her rampage through town.
Now this colorful language and observational jocularity is not a stand-in to the clear and obvious naïveté from walking away at this point and not seeing the aforementioned behavior present in both sexes.
We all know some guy that “drives like a maniac.” And we can identify men regarded by our society as timid, too… always yielding. Sure, there are applications wherein action is the prescribed course, but with so many cooks in the kitchen maybe those “timid” fellas are rather observant instead, scanning their surroundings before being driven by their emotions.
After all, if they are indeed observant they will see how so much “doing” and action is emotionally fueled. How much of it is out of fear and anger. And perhaps that timid character must observe and understand the examples in his environment before he can see his own complementary opposite, expressed in his seemingly unwaivering yielding.
Only then may he be able to see the opposite side of the same coin: unbridled action provoked by fear and anger is the same when those provocations incapacitate. Now what if he had another coin in his pocket? One that was aware of its opposite side?
And this coin would have discernment to know that heads and tails were the same coin. Wait.. wouldn’t this coin be the same as the first? Yes, and they always were. The discerning mind acts when she is called upon and yields when she sees the need for contrast.
To the scientific mind, one recalls that too many positively charged ions become a bomb when they get too close and begin foamenting all of their positivity in a closed space. Stay Positive as an edict for all suddenly begins to sound more like a threat or an allegation.
Now perhaps my words imbue a particular stance on the word positivity. Maybe. But maybe my words matter less than the recognition by our society that by eliminating the negative, rather the pursuit therein, is another attempt to see that light conquers over darkness. White versus black. The stars would not exist without the black night sky and neighter would you or I.
There are a lot of positively driven people out there whose intents for everyone else is leading to a rapacious climb to the top, forsaking everything in their way. It’s not that the intent is ill by its nature, but it is one that fails to consider anyone or anything outside of its own self-preservation. Whatever holds up the good times. Reason falls off here, and the way we feel about reality is quickly subsuming the actual reality we live in. They’re gonna sink the boat man.
But hey, stay positive everybody, positive. #nobadvibes
